Extended Care

Mission
In Extended Care we strive to create a safe and fun after school environment that provides enriching activity options for our students and maximum flexibility to accommodate our parents’ schedules.

Who
Extended Care is available to all of Burke’s students. The program for students in kindergarten-4th grade consists of supervised indoor and outdoor play, projects and occasional access to the Lower School labs and studios.

What
We offer a variety of projects and activities including:

  • Arts and crafts
  • Story/share/game days
  • Board games and dramatic play
  • Approximately one hour and 15 minutes of “recess” for our girls to get plenty of fresh air and physical exercise which many children lack
  • After school computer, art and science taught by Burke’s teachers on specified days
  • Homework/study time

When
Extended Care is offered from dismissal to 6:00 p.m. daily (unless otherwise noted in the calendar or in Tuesday Notes) and there is no Extended Care for Kindergarten during the first week of school and on Pansy Day, the last day of school.

On Lower School early dismissal days, Kindergarten-4th grade Extended Care is only offered when there is a minimum enrollment of five students.

How
Extended Care enrollment forms are sent home in the August mailing and are also available in the main office. You can sign up for specific days or just send a note with your daughter on the day she will be attending.

  • $12/hour drop-in
  • $8/hour prepaid – we offer prepaid cards in blocks of 20 and 50 hours
  • Bill in increments of 30 minutes

Extended Care prepaid cards do NOT expire. Any unused time will be rolled over to the next academic year. It’s handy to have a prepaid card for emergency situations.
